"Houdini" My freshman year shirt
As mentioned in my interview with Erica Fischer, which can be found here, my nickname freshman year was "Houdini." The story behind the shirt is this: My freshman year I was very unmotivated and had no real interest in trying to become a better runner. |
As a result of this I would cut corners, take frequent breaks, and walk during practices and meets. During most practices I would go get water inside the building and remain there until the end of practice. Because I was never where I should have been, everyone would always ask "Where is Weitzner?" When it became the time to pick nicknames for our team shirts, the seniors and coach felt it was appropriate for my shirt to read "Houdini." At the time I thought the nickname was funny because I didn't realize what it meant. Today I realize what this shirt stands for. It stands for my lack of motivation, bad work ethic, and pure laziness. While this shirt seems to have some bad connotations, it actually makes me proud to look at now. I am proud because I know I have changed and that I will never go back to my previous ways. This shirt has become a symbol for who I am today. |
